Deepajyoti Parabrahma

dīpa-jyotiḥ parabrahma dīpa-jyotir janārdanaḥ dīpo haratu me pāpaṃ dīpa-jyotir namo 'stu te
The lamp's light is the Supreme Brahman; the lamp's light is Janardana (Vishnu). May the lamp take away my faults — O light of the lamp, salutations to you.
When it is recited: At lamp-lighting time each evening (sandhya), especially in homes where a diya is lit before the deity or tulsi. Children traditionally recite it with folded hands facing the lamp.
Traditional significance: The lamp is honoured as a living presence of light over darkness — of knowledge over ignorance. Saluting the deepa-jyoti at dusk marks the turning of the day toward rest with an auspicious, protected mind.
Questions

Around sunset, during the evening sandhya. Many households light it before the home shrine or tulsi plant and recite these verses as the lamp is offered.
