How these positions are calculated
Positions come from VSOP87 planetary theory and the ELP lunar theory, reduced to apparent geocentric longitudes and then converted to the sidereal zodiac using the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa — the same ayanamsa used by the Panchang on this site.
Rahu and Ketu use the mean node, which is the conventional choice in Indian panchangs and the one this site validates against. The true node differs by up to about a degree and a half and would change some readings, so the choice is stated rather than left implicit.
Every value is checked against published references before release. The current engine agrees to within one arcminute across sixteen test charts spanning 1950 to 2035, for both Ottawa and Delhi.
