How this chart is drawn — and what “Astangata” means here
Positions come from VSOP87 and ELP theory reduced to apparent geocentric longitudes, converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. The engine agrees with published references to within an arcminute across test charts spanning 1950 to 2035. Houses are whole-sign, the Vedic default: the rashi holding the lagna is the first house and each following rashi is the next house.
Rahu and Ketu use the mean node, which is the convention in Indian panchangs and the one this site validates against.
Astangata is the classical rule for a graha being burnt by nearness to the Sun, judged by fixed degree limits — Chandra 12°, Mangal 17°, Budha 14° (12° when retrograde), Guru 11°, Shukra 10° (8° when retrograde), Shani 15°. Stated plainly: those limits come from the classical texts and we have not been able to check them against a published reference, because the combustion tables that panchang sites publish are Tara Asta — true heliacal visibility, a different quantity. Tara Asta is what this site's Muhurat page uses, where it is validated. The two are not interchangeable and we keep them apart.
A kundali needs a birth time. The lagna turns a full rashi roughly every two hours, so without it the houses cannot be placed at all. If you don't know your time, the rashi and nakshatra page still gives you what can be known.
