Refrain
arati kijai hanumana lala ki
dushta dalana raghunatha kala ki
Perform the aarti of beloved Hanuman — crusher of the wicked, a very portion of Raghunath's own power.
Stanza 1
jake bala se girivara kampe
roga dosha jake nikata na jhamke
anjani putra maha baladai
samtana ke prabhu sada sahai
jāke bala se girivara kāṃpe
roga doṣa jāke nikaṭa na jhāṃke
añjani putra mahā baladāī
saṃtana ke prabhu sadā sahāī
At whose strength the great mountains tremble; near whom sickness and fault dare not even peep. Son of Anjani, giver of great strength, ever the helper of the saints.
Stanza 2
de bira raghunatha pathae
lamka jari siya sudhi lae
lamka so kota samudra si khai
jata pavanasuta bara na lai
de bīrā raghunātha paṭhāe
laṃkā jāri siyā sudhi lāe
laṃkā so koṭa samudra sī khāī
jāta pavanasuta bāra na lāī
Sent forth by Raghunath with his blessing, he burned Lanka and brought back news of Sita. Lanka's fortress with the ocean for its moat — the son of the wind crossed it without a moment's delay.
Stanza 3
lamka jari asura samhare
siyaramaji ke kaja samvare
lakshmana murchita pade sakare
ani samjivana prana ubare
He burned Lanka, destroyed the demons, and accomplished the work of Sita and Rama. When Lakshmana lay unconscious at dawn, he brought the sanjivani herb and saved his life.
paithi patala tori jama-kare
ahiravana ki bhuja ukhare
baim bhuja asura dala mare
dahini bhuja samtajana tare
paiṭhi patāla tori jama-kāre
ahirāvaṇa kī bhujā ukhāre
bāīṃ bhujā asura dala māre
dāhinī bhujā saṃtajana tāre
Descending into the netherworld he broke death's prison and tore off Ahiravana's arms. With his left arm he destroys the hosts of demons; with his right he carries the saints across.
Stanza 5
sura nara muni arati utarem
jaya jaya jaya hanumana ucarem
kamcana thara kapura lau chai
arati karata anjana mai
sura nara muni āratī utāreṃ
jaya jaya jaya hanumāna ucāreṃ
kaṃcana thāra kapūra lau chāī
āratī karata añjanā māī
Gods, men and sages wave the aarti lamp, crying “Jai, jai, jai Hanuman!” The golden plate glows with the camphor flame as mother Anjana herself performs the aarti.
Closing
jo hanumanaji ki arati gavai
basi baikuntha parama pada pavai
arati kijai hanumana lala ki
dushta dalana raghunatha kala ki
jo hanumānajī kī āratī gāvai
basi baikuṇṭha parama pada pāvai
āratī kījai hanumāna lalā kī
duṣṭa dalana raghunātha kalā kī
Whoever sings this aarti of Hanuman attains the supreme abode of Vaikuntha. Perform the aarti of beloved Hanuman, crusher of the wicked, power of Raghunath.
When it is recited: After Hanuman Chalisa or Sundara Kanda recitation; Tuesdays, Saturdays and Hanuman Jayanti.
Traditional significance: Each couplet recalls one of Hanuman's deeds in Rama's service — leaping the ocean, burning Lanka, bringing the sanjivani mountain, rescuing Rama and Lakshmana from the netherworld — so the aarti is both worship and a remembrance of seva itself.
